How is Typhoon Washi - In Iligan City Philippines: Death Toll Hits Over 1,200

We had a good read. For the benefit of yourself. Be sure to read to the end. I want you to get good knowledge from Eye Institute.

Who would expect a calamity?

Typhoon is a natural phenomenon that could happen when a tropical cyclone matures. In straightforward terms, it is a definite storm ideas comprised of thunderstorms with low-pressure that results to heavy rain and strong winds. And that exactly what happened in the Philippines last December 16, 2011.

No one ever view that Iligan and Cagayan De Oro city would precisely perceive such horrifying calamity in the premises. habitancy could not believe the devastation that Typhoon Washi (Sendong as the local name) had brought to the locality. Why? It is simple. For over 20 years, the local residence of Iligan and Cdo had not experienced such serious calamity because the geographical location of the two cities were surrounded with large mountains that would tend to block the strong storm system. I personally could testify that Iligan, as my hometown, is no place for typhoon but not until we met Sendong.

December 16th 2011 (The Struggle)

"800 are recorded dead and there are still 200 missing. We have rescued 1000 habitancy from Bayug, Tambo and Hinaplanon. Bayug island is wiped away. The houses at Tambo and Hinaplanon are drifted. The amount of dead habitancy keeps on increasing. Iligan and Cagayan are in the state of calamity says Mayor Cruz. The survivors were able to save their lives by climbing to the roof. A 6-month old baby is still missing." This news from Dxic (a local radio station) woke me up from my deep sleep. My mum was walking nearby the house and my neighbors were in panic.

Everybody was in turmoil and I could barely believe what happened. When the news mentioned Cagayan, I went to a shock. I was just there yesterday, I told myself. I hurriedly went to our nearest cathedral church and met up with my friends who were gathering to help the victims of Typhoon Sendong. I managed to give some of my used apparels and offered help. The whole city was deranged because of the incident. A friend of mine was still missing. The city smelled dead habitancy (literally). "This is like Nagasaki thrown with an atomic bomb. The place smells dead families with scavengers nearby the corner" says, Sam, a friend of mine who worked at a local radio news station.

Is this a second chance?

Take Faye Ermac, 22 years old and one of the survivors. A good friend of mine. Faye and I once studied in Mindanao State University - Iligan establish of Technology. She was my classmate and known for being extrovert yet kind. I could hardly believe that such a frail woman would ever take the courage to break their ceiling and climb to the roof. I managed to have a conversation with her a week after the incident.

"We were sleeping but my father noticed something unusual. He woke up but, just as he was about to rise from his bed, the water was rapidly rising." She said.

"As luck would have it, you have survived." I replied.

"Yes, we managed to survive because we broke our ceiling and went straight to the roof. We could not do whatever to save our things. What we had in mind was just to save ourselves." She continued.

"The roof served as our refuge. When we were all in the roof, we could see some of our neighbors drifted by the flood together with their daughters and their house. I could not believe what I saw. We were crying except my father who was precisely considered to save us all." She talked while carrying her bag full of clothes and food.

I could still sense the stressing perceive she had as I looked at her eyes. Before, I view that Typhoon was something that whatever could just read on textbooks and news papers but, not until I talked with Faye and saw dead bodies carried in trucks.

"But, my two nephews did not make it." Her voice suddenly gave chill to my toes.

"They were just 7 and 9 years old. My nephews were at my uncle's house. Maybe, if they were with us, they would have survived. Too young to pass away. It breaks my heart to know that my nephews died because of the flood. They were cute but, they left us." She said.

I did not want to continue the conversation anymore. I could not even look at her eyes again. It was like I felt the same lost. After the conversation, we departed ways and thanked God. Me and my family were not affected by the flood.

For some reasons, I could still say that I am lucky. After losing my small firm and contract, I am well aware that I am one of the luckiest personel who have stepped the world. As for my friend Faye, I could implicit that she is pondering in her heart and asking: is this a second chance?

Do you know about - Knighthoods from Cardboard Swords - Why the Nation Exaggerates Its Praise for the military

Dakota Eye! Again, for I know. Ready to share new things that are useful. You and your friends.

The evidence is in just two words, "hero" and "warrior." Overused, and inaccurately overused, they've been redefined. Once citizen had to voluntarily risk their corporal security to be heroes. Last March at a lecture he gave in Petoskey, Michigan, new Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer referred several times to four names on his wrist. The men were slain fellow Marines and a Corpsman. "They're the heroes," he said. But today simply enlisting is called a brave act. As for the term "warrior," contemporary arms contain night-vision gear, direct-fire rockets and computerized smart guns that hit citizen hiding behind rocks, but "warrior" conjures images like samurai and Prince Valiant. Chain mail can approximately be heard clicking and chinging. Anything happened to "serviceman" and "servicewoman?" Even the Stolen Valor Act is curious. Since 1923 congress has been proscribing the wearing of unauthorized troops decorations. So why wait until 2006 to finally criminalize lying about them? What's going on here? Why try to ennoble troops aid this way? Answer: a sense of guilt.

How is Knighthoods from Cardboard Swords - Why the Nation Exaggerates Its Praise for the military

We had a good read. For the benefit of yourself. Be sure to read to the end. I want you to get good knowledge from Dakota Eye.

Part of the nation's deference to the troops resides in a lingering shame over the treatment of returning Vietnam War vets. May the nation never forget the indifference and the insults. Part of the shame stems from the knowledge that nobody works harder for the nation than its armed forces, elements of which are being misused, but which most of the country is willing to sacrifice. Those are hard words, but this is the nature of the compact in place for any society with a military. However, the arrangement should be galling for the United States because it's disconnected from that other 1% that isn't rich, the citizen in uniform.

The American citizen and their troops formally disengaged when the draft ended in 1973. It's not that the collective doesn't care about the troops; it's that it cares less now. It's understandable. We've been a nation with two long, concurrent wars and nobody being forced to fight in them. War has become a matter for professionals, and it was free for the majority of the population. No extra taxes, no personal loss, no way to relate.

Given the data, it's uncostly for citizen to be glad they or their kids don't have to "go in." citizen can't cite the numbers but they've heard the news: Army suicides were up 80% between 2004 and 2008 the last time they were researched with 25% to 50% of them directly related to combat commitments. And the suicides continue. Overmedication and lack of hold lead to the tragedy.

Another Army study, conducted in 2009, found troops that had done three Afghanistan tours had more than double the rate of psychological problems vis-a-vis soldiers with one tour. an additional one study, focused on Iraq, showed the Ptsd rate was approximately 2.5 times higher after two deployments compared with one. The case of Sgt. Robert Bales comes to mind. He did three tours in Iraq. In Wwii, Gis had 43 combat days, in Korea 180, Vietnam 260. Today it's 320. The trend is shameful. "An Army engaged in prolonged combat operations is a citizen under stress," said Dr. Michelle Cheval, a senior epidemiologist at the Us Army collective condition Command.

Multiple deployments should have been limited, tour duration, too, but somebody is understaffed. Here are more words being used, this time with ulterior meaning: "Thank you" and "Welcome home." Translation circa 2012: "We're grateful you went so we didn't have to go." But forget a draft. Spooked by what happened to the Vietnam-era military, the Pentagon's afraid of conscription in a nation where 70% oppose its reinstatement. And that's a real problem. Andrew Bacevich, a retired Army colonel teaching at Boston University thinks, "If we are going to pursue the global war on terror, and if that means circumstances like Iraq won't be one of a kind, we don't have sufficient soldiers to get the job done. What do we do? Nobody knows." Meanwhile, some citizen are itching for a fight with Iran.

In 1972 when ex-Wwii bomber pilot George McGovern ran for president, he said if elected he'd push for a law requiring every member of congress voting for a war to serve in it. Now dream a constitutional amendment requiring the commander in chief to have troops experience. The privileged class might stop running for high office. But this is not the America of Wwii with the pride that came from defending the country or Anything we were doing in Iraq or are doing in Afghanistan. In the Second World War even the privileged wanted to fight. George H. W. Bush was 19 and pulled strings so that he could be an underage Navy pilot without a college degree.

Civil War soldiers called finding action "seeing the elephant." It was a play on the chief attraction of the old circus, the greatest show on earth until their war. Because unless citizen see the elephant, they'll never feel the kind of anxiety that comes from living among high-explosive surprises or from being aware of the major possibility of the superior moment of truth when a sniper shoots them between the eyes. The next best thing is to know somebody that related something about the show. But most citizen don't know any person who's been to whether of our twin adventures, let alone both. War movies could come with live fire put over the audience. Ultimate but it would help them understand. That will never happen, though, so the sympathetic or the involving will try to empathize and the conscientious will reproach themselves. No, until the burden on the troops is lightened and the sacrifice shared, the accolades of "hero" and "warrior" conferred on everybody that wears or just hung up a uniform are disingenuous - knighthood bestowed with a cardboard sword.
